Been to look at some Stags this weekend and have come away disillusioned!

The price bracket I had set was £5K but having looked at a few £5K cars in the colours Lois wants I think I need to have a rethink.

The cars are not worth it they need bodywork to the doors, arches etc and the diffs and engines are not all OK so to speak.

I think the problem is I know to much about the cars and how much it costs to put each fault right. On top of this we want to use it everyday so would it be better to wait about 2 years and buy a £10-12K car which should need very little doing to it?

    What do you guys think?

I would keep looking - when I got mine I looked at a number that turned out to be "not quite as described" shall we say. I am afraid I always find buying cars a painful job, driving all over the place and walking away! You will find one but at that budget I suppose you will have to accept that it will need a bit of work.

If however it is to be a daily driver do you want a very good one? Will you always be too worried about it? Maybe just a OK one that you can sort out as you go. It will need money spending on it but you have to remember that you will not have the depreciation of a modern car.

As everyone here knows (!)....I am a total amateur regarding Stags BUT what I have seen is that the price band you are looking in has cars that are rotty old dogs and also some quite solid ones.

I would think that increasing the budget towhatever level won't rule out people chancing their arm with the odd dog or two.

The answer is to keep patient and keep looking.

I don't beleive you don't need to spend £10/12K to get a good one. Like the others have said patience is the name of the game. Took me over 12 months of on and off lookingto find mine and was well worth the wait. I even looked at £15/20K cars but in the end felt that it was not worth spendng that sort of money if it was to be used regularly.

          Keep looking Stuart........

            Hi

What about this one then, does anyone know this car?

            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Triumph-Stag-H...item4151b779d7

It has what looks like a tidy conversion to RV(MG)8 the dark side may beckon

When I bought mine I found it on good old autotrader and as it turned out was an SOC member. I think folks forget sometime about autotrader these days with the likes of Pistonheads and Ebay.

What about this one? Sounds and looks really nice

PS There are a few on the trader that look worth of enquiry I think.

                Hi Nigel

Yes I purchased my last Stag off Autotrader, this one looks nice it does have some minus points for me like no hardtop and not tax exempt.

I do not have a garage and we will be using it all year so a hardtop is preferred option.

Thanks for the nod on this one.

Agree that people often forget about autotrader- I bought mine from there. The odd thing about that one is the dates on the photos, could just be the date not set correctly on the camera, but i wouldn't cast a major opinion based on 5 year old pictures.

                          Good news about your bike.

                                Hi All

The next Stag will be not be for sometime as I have bought one of my childhood favorite vehicles for a bargain being summer!

2 Owners from new and 48k miles but best of all 4L straight sixwith 4 speed auto.

The Magenta Stag will have to wait for another year at least, but just couldn't resist a bargain like this especially when it cost a fifth of my budget for the Stag
