I spoke to my mate who did a lot of the mechnical work on the Escort and he was surprised how little of the mechanic work that was filmed was shown a huge amount was cut in favour of the history of the Mexico.. He told me about a lot things that went on that obviously I cannot divulge. that again were also cut. But all in all it was a good program. I bet they will give the Stag a hammering about the early problems but we must wait and see . There were a few clips of the Stags so hope the owners will put the record straight

That's TV for you. I spent 2 1/2 days in the South of France many years ago filming with Clarkson - the subsequent piece on Top Gear lasted about 5 minutes

The trouble about the filming was that, once they discovered that I used to be in the workshop and service reception of a Triumph dealer they kept asking were Stags troublesome? Well, I'd have looked stupid if I'd lied but I kept on repeating that all the old problems have now been overcome and that Stags today can be as reliable as most classic cars, however I'm rather worried that they'll edit out the good bits and just leave in the bad ones
Ah well, fingers crossed.
Cheers

I am still apprehensive about this - They filmed me at Stoneleigh for the programme and this is what I've said already:

Julian - My limited experience of the film making world leads me to think that they will only want to show the entertaining, juicy bits.
Depending on what has been edited out, you may go from being an "all round good guy" within SOC to a pariah
Never mind, you've always had a soft spot for MGs, haven't you....Bereft of a Triumph of any description.

I hope you told them as long as you put the rover v8 in one they are reliable

I enjoyed the first episode as entertainment. Funnily enough I saw a group of Mark 1 and 2 Escorts earlier in the day whilst at Lake Vyrnwy in our Stag.
I suspect the Stag will get hammered in its episode as they have already shown a clip of it apparently breaking down and being pushed.
Regards
Bruce

The one they borrowed was from a well known dealer and the alternator failed - originally they were going to use my car for that trip but I refused to let them take it out of the country without me in the Crew wagon - unfortunately the dates they were committed to were a no go for me.
However I took mine to France a couple of weeks later, without the breakdowns.....

Just watched the first programme on catch up and really enjoyed it, love Sebring Red as a colour and would love a mk1 Escort or Capri. I guess this episode will push Escort prices up even more and I would like to know where you can buy a mk1 non Mexico 2 door shell for £500 as mentioned on the programme, total rust bucket 1100 shells are fetching more than that. Wish I had kept my 1100 Mexico look alike in saluki brown with white stripe from when I was 17 it would be worth more than my Stag now:-)sigpic
