To be honest - the 60's was the best time of my life.
Great Music and the girls I met just wanted to enjoy them themselve without any committment.
Things will never be the same again.
The cars were also special - a Sunbeam Rapier, then a Mini-Cooper, then a Spitfire Mk3 and a Mk4..
I am embarresed to tell you what car I had next.
Got a phone call that my replacement engine has the dreaded HG problems on and off. It’s touch and go whether or not I have either the Alvis or my Stag for the Fougères rally in two weeks time. Should have just had the engine rebuilt rather than try and save money. But hind sight and all that.

First classic car show of the season tomorrow at Killerton House, so spent all day (6 hours) cleaning and polishing the Winter grime away. AutoGlym Detailing Wax on the outside. AutoGlym Super Resin Polish under the bonnet. AutoGlym Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner on the seats and tyres. AutoGlym Fast Glass on the windows. Solvol Autosol on the chrome, stainless steel and wheel rims. Poorboys Sealant on the wheel rims. And a complete vacuum. Now back in the garage before the birds target it! Forecast is for sun tomorrow...

Picked up a shiny new mot with no adviseries. I asked the inspector about new rules and how they would affect my stag and he said he wouldn't be following it to the letter. he is a sensible guy and makes allowances for older cars. While still being firm on unsafe issues.
Took two wheels off and popped them down the road for diamond cutting. When I get them back, I'll pop them back on, turn the car around and put it back in the garage and take the second pair, the Stag doesn't get wet, it's like Henry the green engine!
I also removed one of the aluminium sill covers (yes, aluminium not stainless). I was expecting to find some corrosion and I found...nothing, just some dirt so quite happy there. Just need to spend some time sanding down and buffing the aluminium back to shiny, there are some deeper pits but i'll have to live with those.
I used mine as a van on Sunday to take old radio equipment to a market in Leamington Spa.. it is amazing how much can fit into a Stag after you take the spare seats out!
Took mine to the Surrey Heath Show in Frimley Green. There was a good turn out of Classics despite the rumours of a wedding somewhere quite close! There were two other nice Stags from the Basingstoke Car Club I think,, one red and one yellow.

Drove to Matlock Sainsburys yesterday for strawberries for a BBQ today. Came across a white Stag in the carpark-apparently on fine days they come from Sandiacre(15mls) to do the shopping in Matlock. Good excuse for a run out. Punter heard to say " you don't see many of those now but 2 in the car park at the same time is amazing"
We drove over to join the Preston branch of the SOC for the John Whittaker memorial run. John used to own the car I now have and was area co-ordinator for some years and owned the Stag for 27 years prior to his death. Due to the Yorkshire dales being crammed with bikes for yet another stupid bike race we baled out at the halfway stage and went over to Morecambe. Haven't been for years and it's still a dump!!
