SO what did you you do with your Stag today?

Still having problems with my engine misfire when hot. Replaced the following with new items:

Coil, distributor cap, rotor arm, fuel filter, king lead. No improvement.

Stripped the carbs, cleaned, and rebuilt. No improvement.

Contacted one of our more experienced members who diagnosed the fault over the phone. Now I have to work out how to fix it........

What is the diagnoses then Dave??. Electronic ignition failing Ballast wire breaking down?.

Ignition switch

Wired up my level switch to new header tank, the sender is closed when tank is full so I needed to reverse this with a 5 pin relay. Got it all done and light was still on when full. After much wondering what I had done wrong pulled out the new relay which made the right noises but turned out to be duff ffs. All working now.

Ignition switch

Certainly a fault there somewhere. Temporarily running a wire from the +ve battery to the +ve coil resolved the problem. I've remade the terminals to the coil and checked the other end at the fuse box. It could also be a fault at the ignition switch. Just going out to try it again to see if what I have done was successful. If not, I'll be ordering up a Mk1 resistor to try that as it is cheaper, and easier to install than changing the ignition switch.....

You could always short out the ignition switch at the multi pin plug to prove or dis prove it Dave?

Hi Ian. I'm hoping I've found the problem. The WY and Ballast wires were crimped together by the factory. In preparation for possibly fitting a Mk1 resistor I cut off the double connector to fit single connectors to each wire. Whilst preparing the BR wire, the last few mm appeared to be broken. I have attached both wires to the double +ve terminal and had an extended test drive with no problem. I'll try it again tomorrow when the sun comes out again.

Hope so Russ. Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The symptoms certainly seemed like fuel starvation, or flooding. I hadn't considered the BR until we spoke. There is certainly no substitute for experience and expertise.
