A blue pill in the tank will cure that.

Took a drive to "Flywheel" at Bicester Heritage. Weather started off wet but got much better later. A superb event and venue. Saw only 2 other Stags.

Careful it doesn't get stuck in your throat or you'll have stiff neck!

Stripped out passenger door and took out window frame. Repaired drive to quarter light, improved fit of the window and frame, quite a satisfactory exercise, will do drivers side next. All I need to do now is save up for a new pair of door inside panels.

IMG_2381.jpgChucked mine out the garage to do some Stag stuff, so used it to get my boy from school - saw this on the speedo when I got there - second time around of course - and for some reason the photo rotated (not the car)

Luckily only bent bumper irons, number plate plinth and small kink in bumper. No apparent paint or panel damage other than minor deforming of the OSF chassis rail flange where the bumper iron attaches. So far I am impressed with their insurers who were on the phone within the hour offering free repair and hire car. They are happy for me to use the same business that restored my car in 2013, so I know I'll be getting it done properly, with any re-chroming done by S&T. It will probably work out cheaper for the insurers than if it had been a modern car with painted plastic bumpers.....
Took the Stag down to AMR today and swapped it for their courtesy car so that they can start the repairs. Bumper should be back from S&T on Thursday. Got this for now. Very tidy, low mileage 1.8 Astra Coupe. At least it is almost Carmine

Yesterday I removed the Holley (again) and re-fitted the Strombergs; I decided I think finally I prefer the Strombergs.
Truthfully I find the induction noise just a little intrusive and also the pick up from rest with the Stroms is just better, I can't quite put a reason to it but I think it must be something to do with the size of the ports on the Stroms being better matched than the Holley and the air fuel mixture being processed more quickly.
If I where after more top end I'd keep the Holley but I keep returning to the system that gives me what I like best about the Stag and that is the instant low down torque.
And I use ATF in the dashpots.....

One main reason why I did't fit a Weber. Chris did confess to me that they were a bit 'throaty' compared to the original carbs.

It's all down to the air filter I believe as I had them on my Ford Anglia fitted with a 1500 GT Cortina engine and was very 'throaty' which I didn't mind at the time....late 70's.

Normal 20/50 engine oil in my dashpots.

I have to say Jeff I think age may have a bearing on the change- I remember the old Escorts with Webers and the throaty induction noise and still love them for it but it just doesn't seem right on the Stag - also, fitting the great big air cleaner surround on a Holley apart from the cost rather undoes part of the gain, it stops so much air getting in.
im going to put some 20/50 back in my pots too as seems on here that is what most used of those that know best from experience.
                          Cheers!
